CIRQUE
DU VOTELEIL
Role: Co-Producer
The 2020 election was already a circus… why not make it a fun one?
In October of 2020, local performers were scrambling to find work and the country was facing a looming electoral crisis. A group of us set out to address both challenges at once.
With the support of a grant from the Awesome Foundation, “Cirque Du Voteleil” was born - a pop-up roving circus that paraded through San Francisco distributing information about early voting locations, vote-by-mail deadlines, and ballot guides.
Our goal was to encourage people to cast a safe and EARLY vote, and do so with joy, humor & community.
HIGHLIGHTS
A dad stops riding his bike so his little girl could watch the circus. After chatting with us for a few minutes and learning that early voting had already started, he re-routes their bike ride to City Hall so he could cast his vote with her.
A dance party erupts outside a bar-turned-parklet with circus performers and 49er fans.
A local restaurant offers a round of free drinks to the performers to keep spirits high and distract them from blistered feet.
